Mumbai Crime: CMO rapes doctor for a year, held

A 38-year-old former chief medical officer (CMO) from the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) hospital was arrested by the Waliv police on Tuesday for raping and blackmailing a doctor for nearly a year. According to the police, CMO Dr Sunil Wadkar met the survivor in 2013, after she was recruited as a doctor in the same government hospital.

“When the woman was selected for the doctor’s post, CMO Dr Sunil Wadkar was assigned to train her. During the course of this training, Wadkar took her out for dinner once to a restaurant on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, where he had secretly booked a room.

“He convinced the trainee doctor that it would be best to dine comfortably in the room, since people were consuming alcohol at the restaurant,” an official from Waliv police station said. Having successfully lured her to the room, Wadkar forced himself on her, recorded the act on his cellphone and also clicked photographs.

He threatened to make the video and the photos public if the doctor refused to continue sleeping with him. He continued to blackmail her like this for nearly a year. Refusing to take the blackmail anymore, the survivor finally filed a complaint with the Waliv police on Sunday...

Kidnapper abducts boy, returns him in 10 days without any ransom

WALKING OFF: The CCTV grabs showing the boy (inset) walking off with accused ‘Kamlesh’. According to the child, the duo played, ate and slept in the accused’s native village.
In a strange case of kidnapping, an eight-year-old boy was abducted from a playground in Chunabhatti on Saturday, and ten days later, on Tuesday, was seen at the same grounds playing with his friends. The Chunabhatti police have registered a case and are on the hunt for the accused.

According to the police, the incident occurred in Prem Nagar, where Bhushan Balchandra Sawant stays with his parents. The child is a Std III student in a nearby municipal school and his father is a rickshaw driver.

Said an officer from Chunabhatti police station, “Bhushan didn’t go to school on Saturday and was playing in the nearby Shivaji ground along with his friends. When his uncle Vinod Sawant came to look for him, he couldn’t find the boy anywhere. He couldn’t find him at home as well.” With the help of locals, Vinod scoured the entire area for the boy, but to no avail. The parents then approached the police and filed a complaint.

Kidnap on cam
Police began making enquiries into the case. At the Chunabhatti railway station, officials checked the CCTV camera feed and found that the boy was walking hand in hand with the accused. This gave police a confirmation that the child had been kidnapped. They began circulating pictures of the boy and the screen grab of the accused to several railway stations and bus depots...

Mumbai shocker: 10-yr-old watches his father set his mother ablaze

In an incident that will probably haunt him for the rest of his life, a 10-year-old saw his mother being set ablaze by his father, following an argument over dowry. Irfan Sheikh (34), his parents and his two sisters had allegedly been torturing 27-year-old Meena for dowry ever since the couple got married in 2003.

The birth of two kids, 4-year-old Anwar and 10-year-old Imran, and the fact that eleven years had elapsed since the couple’s marriage did not stop the daily beatings and torture. On June 14, there was a heated argument between Meena and Irfan in which her in-laws were also involved.

After they beat Meena up, Irfan flew into a rage, doused Meena’s body in kerosene and set her ablaze as 10-year-old Imran watched. In a bid to save herself, Meena tried to cling to Irfan, due to which he suffered minor burns.

Meena had suffered 90% burns by the time she was rushed to Sion Hospital, and she succumbed to them on Tuesday. “We have registered a case of murder and dowry harassment against Irfan, his parents and his sisters. He will be arrested once he is discharged from Sion Hospital, where he is being treated for his burns. The couple’s 10-year-old son Imran is the prime eyewitness in the case. We are recording his statement.”

‘He burnt mom’
Speaking to mid-day, Meena’s brother Halim Khan said, “It was getting more difficult for Meena as each day passed. Even having two kids did not save the marriage or prevent Meena from being beaten up every day.”

“Imran left the house immediately. He came to my mother and said, ‘Nani, papa ne ammi ko jala diya’. We rushed to her house and I found my sister Meena completely naked with burns covering her body. We rushed her to Sion hospital, but she had received 90% burns. She died on Tuesday evening.”..
