Wasim Akram says Pakistan playing 'brilliant cricket' ahead of Asia Cup final

Former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram has said that the Pakistan team is playing 'brilliant cricket' at the moment and they have reached their prime at the right time to defend their title in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka on March 8.

Akram praised Shahid Afridi for his batting against arc-rivals India and hosts Bangladesh saying that Afridi is in his 'supreme best' and he did not have words for Afridi's 'remarkable' and 'amazing' batting.

According to The Nation, Akram also praised Fawad Alam for hitting his career best score and said that Alam has made a comeback in the team after over three years as he helped his team win with a 'pair of sixes'.

However, Akram has reportedly warned Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq against Sri Lanka as they are a 'very good side' and he also added that Pakistan should take care of their bowling as they were bowling too much to the 'off-side' of the stump instead of the 'right areas'.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif and Test cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz also praised the Pakistan team, but Nawaz reportedly said that the changes made in the team's batting order were a 'blunder' and also added that Pakistan's poor performance in bowling would not make the final against Sri Lanka easy.

Asia Cup: Pakistan have an upper hand in opener against Sri Lanka

The 12th edition of the Asia Cup will kick-start from Tuesday when defending champions Pakistan will lock horns with Sri Lanka at Fatullah, Bangladesh.

On papers, it`s quite difficult to judge which team is stronger. Both the teams have strong batting line ups and decent bowlers as well in their respective sides. But a few factors are in favour of Pakistan. In the last three ODI encounters between them, Pakistan have managed to snatch two wins against Sri Lanka`s sole victory.

Pakistan have a well-settled opening pair in Sharjeel Khan and Ahmed Shehzad, which can give them a good start at the top. Their all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has also been in good form and on the top of it, he has a good track record against Sri Lanka. He is a match-winner and can give Lanka a run for their money.

Apart from that, experienced Pakistani skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has scored seven half-centuries in his last nine innings, which means the in-form skipper will be high on confidence while leading his side in the opening match.

When it come to bowling, in Bilawal Bhatti they have a promising seamer, whereas Junaid Khan has the potential to give the Sri Lankan batsmen a tough time in the middle.

Though, Pakistan have an upper hand, they can`t take Sri Lanka lightly who have won the Asia Cup four times and are strong contenders to lift the trophy this time around as well.

Hope of father makes Ankush a cricketer

[राजीव शर्मा)] नई दिल्ली। शारजाह में अंडर-19 एशिया कप खिताब जीतने वाली टीम इंडिया के सलामी बल्लेबाज व टूर्नामेंट के हीरो रहे अंकुश बैंस का अगला लक्ष्य यूएई में 14 फरवरी से होने वाले अंडर-19 विश्व कप में सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रदर्शन करके राष्ट्रीय टीम में जगह बनाना है। अंकुश आज जिस राह पर खड़े हैं, वो बिल्कुल मुमकिन नहीं होती अगर उनके पिता को अपने बेटे पर भरोसा ना होता और एक जिद ना होती उसे खिलाड़ी बनाने की। टेनिस के कोर्ट से नजरअंदाज किए जाने के बाद कैसे एक युवा देखते-देखते शानदार क्रिकेटर बन गया, ये एक दिलचस्प कहानी रही।

अंकुश की कहानी काफी दिलचस्प रही है। उनके पिता करतार बैंस अपने बेटे को टेनिस खिलाड़ी बनाना चाहते थे। जब उनका बेटा 10 साल का था तो उन्होंने उसका दाखिला टेनिस अकादमी में करा दिया था, लेकिन कोच ने उनका सपना ये कहकर तोड़ दिया कि अंकुश के पैर चौड़े हैं और कद भी छोटा है। हालांकि खुद वॉलीबॉल खिलाड़ी रह चुके करतार ने अपने बेटे को भी एक खिलाड़ी बनाने की जिद ठान रखी थी। उन्होंने उसे माउंट आबू पब्लिक स्कूल रोहिणी सेक्टर-पांच की क्रिकेट अकादमी में दाखिला दिलाया। उसके बाद जो हुआ वह अब इतिहास का हिस्सा है। अब करतार की हसरत अपने बेटे को टीम इंडिया की कैप पहने हुए देखने की है। दिल्ली के रोहिणी इलाके में रहने वाले लेकिन मूल रूप से हिमाचल के खतरबाड़ निवासी करतार कहते हैं, 'पहले लोग अंकुश को मेरे बेटे के रूप में जानते थे, लेकिन मैं अब क्रिकेटर अंकुश के पिता के नाम से पहचाना जाता हूं। इससे बड़ी खुशी एक पिता के लिए और क्या हो सकती है। मुझे पता है कि अभी तो ये शुरुआत है, उसे अभी काफी लंबा सफर तय करना है। अब उसका अगला लक्ष्य अंडर-19 विश्व कप खेलना है। उसके बाद अगले रणजी सीजन में कम से कम एक हजार रन बनाने होंगे। ऐसा कर वो चयनकर्ताओं का ध्यान अपनी ओर आकर्षित करने में जरूर कामयाब होगा।'

टीम इंडिया के धमाकेदार बल्लेबाज विराट कोहली को अपना आदर्श मानने वाले अंकुश 219 रन बनाकर अंडर-19 एशिया कप के सर्वाधिक रन बनाने वाले खिलाड़ी बने, जिस दौरान उनके बल्ले से दो अर्धशतक आए। पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ फाइनल मुकाबले में भी उन्होंने टीम को अच्छी शुरुआत दी जो बाद में आने वाले बल्लेबाजों के लिए फायदेमंद साबित हुई और अंत में भारत को जीत मिली। रणजी ट्रॉफी में हिमाचल की ओर से खेलने वाले इस युवा बल्लेबाज का अगला लक्ष्य अच्छा प्रदर्शन करके राष्ट्रीय चयनकर्ताओं को प्रभावित करना है। अंकुश कहते हैं, 'मुझे पता है यह आसान नहीं है, लेकिन मैं कड़ी मेहनत कर एक दिन अपना लक्ष्य जरूर हासिल करूंगा।'
