India's fielding and bowling basics in Asia Cup hit for a six, laments Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar feels India can ill afford to make the basic errors that Virat Kohli's team made against Sri Lanka in Fatullah, Bangladesh on Friday night. India dropped catches, missed a crucial stumping chance and more importantly, came close to serious injury after players collided in their attempt to grab skiers. India lost a close match against Sri Lanka by two wickets on Friday night and must beat Pakistan on Sunday to improve their chance of playing the Asia Cup final on March 8.

Chasing 265 for a win, Sri Lanka rode a brilliant under-pressure century (103 off 84 balls) by Kumar Sangakkara and a pugnacious 64 by Kusal Perera to steal India's thunder in a game where fortunes fluctuated. India's performance was riddled with errors as the pacers bowled juicy full tosses in their attempt to bowl yorkers in the crucial death overs. "In recent times, India have rarely had all their four bowlers bowling well together. If you can't bowl the yorkers in the death overs, you should not be in the team," said Sunil Gavaskar in an exclusive chat with NDTV on Friday night.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami gave away 126 runs in less than 20 overs between them. Shami took three wickets but his 81 runs undid all the good work he did with the semi-new ball. The fielders failed to back the bowlers, dropping at least three catches and also coming close to serious injury. Shikhar Dhawan ran into an advancing Ajinkya Rahane as Perera miscued Shami to point when on seven. The catch was dropped and the ball trickled over the ropes but Dhawan and Rahane, two of India's batting pillars, avoided serious injury....

Junior Natls at Mysore

A total of 32 teams will be participating in the championship which will be played on league-cum-knockout basis at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium in Mysore.  The nationals will also see two new teams competing -- Hockey Gangpur (Odisha) and Vidarbha.

The tournament will be played in two phases in Divisions A and B. There will be 16 teams each competing in both divisions. Division B will be played from March 5-13 while Division A will take place from March 15-23.

In Division A, last year’s bronze medallist Jharkhand will take on Bengal in the opening match on March 15 and the final will be played March 23.

Hosts Karnataka are in Pool B along with Delhi, Bhopal and runners-up Madhya Pradesh.

Alia Bhatt sports an Indian fusion look in 2 States

First she played a glam girl in Student of The Year, then donned the casual look in Highway and now in 2 States Alia Bhatt says she will sport the Indian fusion look.

"My clothes in the film has been designed by Manish Malhotra, so I didn't have to think about it. Manish gets Indian fusion look so well," Alia told reporters at 2 States trailer launch.

"The film moves to different cities, it has different looks, so we have played a lot with the look. Her look is simple yet modern," she added.

Alia is playing a Tamil girl in 2 States, a big screen adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's bestseller of the same name. Directed by Abhishek Varman, it features Arjun Kapoor as the male lead.

When asked whether her character will be compared to Deepika Padukone's in Chennai Express, she said: "It's not the same at all. She is a modern girl and she speaks in Tamil only with her parents."

Sooraj Pancholi to go bare for ‘Main Tera Hero’

Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab’s son Sooraj Pancholi headed for Manali for his debut film, ‘Main Tera Hero’ shooting opposite debutante Athiya Shetty, daughter of Suniel Shetty and it is reported that the debutante actor would go bare for an action scene.

"Sooraj will do bare-backed action scenes shot at a very high altitude. The idea is to make the action sequences top-notch since the word is that Jackie Shroff's son Tiger, in his debut film Hero-Panti has done some of the finest stunts ever in a Hindi film.

"Sooraj's forte is drama and emotions. Stunts don't come as naturally to him as they do to Tiger. Sooraj has been practising hard to master the stunts. The Hero team has devised some intricate shirtless action for Sooraj in the rugged rocky Himalayan terrain," the source said
In Manali, Sooraj will shoot few romantic song and action scene. The romantic songs to be filmed on Sooraj and Athiya would be original tunes composed by Sachin-Jigar. The ‘Main Tera Hero’ team left for Manali on Thursday.

"Initially, Nikhil planned to use a remixed version of the original romantic duet from Subhash Ghai Hero... Tu mera janu hai tu mera dilbar hai. But with music company Saregama charging through the roof for the original songs, Nikhil Advani has opted to get fresh songs recorded," said a source.

The new romantic duet to be shot in Himachal took some time to be composed.

"Nikhil Advani's films have always boasted of outstanding songs and music. He asked Sachin-Jigar to compose a romantic duet to rival Laxmikant-Pyarelal's Tu mera janu hai and Pyaar karne wale from the original Hero," the source added.

Dad said bikini scene will get 'Bewakoofiyan' a good opening: Sonam Kapoor

Actress Sonam Kapoor's daring bikini shot in 'Bewakoofiyaan' may have raised some eyebrows, but her father Anil Kapoor was unfazed. In fact, he said it would get the film a "good opening".

"He knew about that (the bikini shot)! My dad is an artist and he is very open-minded...actually he was the one who encouraged me to become an actress. He didn't say anything, he just said the film will get a good opening," Sonam said at a press conference for the film's promotion here Friday.

The tall actress, who was once on the heavier side on the weighing scale, says she didn't have to go through much stress and strain to look fit enough for a bikini scene. 

"I didn't have to work hard because I am playing a regular girl in the film. I have a tendency to put on weight but my routine was the same for this film. You will not see me as a movie star in this movie as I am playing a regular girl," she said.

While there has been a lot of talk on whether Sonam has been able to pull off the two-piece garment, she says she always knew about the scene and she was comfortable with it.

"When I signed the film, it was my idea. I was briefed that there is a pool there and I have to wear swimsuit. I said my body is lean, and it is thin on the waist...so let's just show that. If you see the shot...unlike the shots in films like 'Dhoom' or 'Race', cameras are not panned on the body.

"It's a normal shot where I am wearing a swimsuit and jump into the pool," she added.

Directed by Nupur Asthana, 'Bewakoofiyaan' also features Ayushmann Khurrana.

Crimean PM claims control of forces, asks Putin for help

 The pro-Russian prime minister of Ukraine’s Crimea claimed control of all military, police and other security services in the region on Saturday and appealed to Russia President Vladimir Putin for help in keeping peace there.

In a statement reported by local and Russian news agencies, Sergei Aksenov declared that the armed forces, the police, the national security service and border guards will answer only to his orders. He said any commanders who don’t agree should leave their posts.

“Understanding my responsibility for the life and security of citizens, I appeal to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin for assistance in guaranteeing peace and calmness on the territory of the autonomous republic of Crimea,” Mr Aksenov said in his statement.

Mr Aksenov, the head of the main pro-Russia party on the peninsula, was appointed by the Crimean parliament on Thursday as tensions soared over Crimea’s resistance to the new authorities in Kiev, who took power last week.

Armed men described as Russian troops on Friday took control of key airports in Crimea, where the Russian Black Sea Fleet is based.

National peace talks held in Venezuela to end protests

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro opened another session of a national conference for peace Friday, seeking to put an end to the country's weeks-long violent protests.

At the meeting, Maduro proposed turning the event into a permanent forum, reported Xinhua.

Among other measures to promote peace, Maduro called for a political liaison committee as a permanent channel of communication between various sectors in Venezuela.

He also urged right-wing student leaders, who reportedly instigated the anti-government protests starting Feb 12, to decide how they wanted to participate in the peace talks, saying he was ready to meet them at Miraflores, the Presidential Palace.

Maduro also voiced his concern about rising anti-Cuban sentiment among right-wing extremists, as evidenced by placards and banners in opposition rallies and marches.

Some 25,000 Cuban doctors and healthcare workers were in Venezuela as part of a bilateral cooperation agreement, and their lives could be endangered, said Maduro.
