Ratan Tata receives honorary doctorate from York University

The honour was conferred upon him at the 2014 spring convocation of York University's Schulich School of Business on Friday by Chancellor of the varsity Gregory Sorbara, who praised Tata for making his companies a "Global Power" and described him as a "Great Architect of Modern India", a University website post said.

   

"I just want to tell you that I am deeply indebted and deeply moved to receive this honour that you have bestowed," Tata said while accepting the honour.

   

"I had no idea that this university and this business school  (Schulich School of Business) had done the various things that moved beyond the shores of Canada to reflect the internationality of the world we live in today. I thank you and cherish," he said.

   

Tata, who travelled to Toronto to receive the honour, was among the 12 recipients of honorary doctorate from York University.

   

The former chairman reminded the graduating 500 students about their responsibilities as they step into what he termed "a troubled world full of conflicts and disputes".

सिंगापुर। रतन टाटा के सपनों की कार नैनो को उम्मीद के मुताबिक सफलता नहीं मिलने से वह निराश हैं। टाटा समूह के मानद चेयरमैन ने कहा है कि यह अब नए अवतार में आएगी। इसका नया मॉडल इंडोनेशिया के रास्ते भारत आएगा। यानी इसे पहले विदेश में पेश किया जाएगा। वहां यह सस्ती नहीं रह जाएगी। इसके बाद घरेलू बाजार में नई छवि के साथ इसके सफर की नई शुरुआत होगी।

एक इंटरव्यू में टाटा ने इस कार की असफलता पर अफसोस जताते हुए स्वीकार किया कि हमने इसकी मार्केटिंग में गलती कर दी। यह उन दोपहिया वालों के लिए बनाई गई थी, जो परिवार के साथ सभी मौसम में सुरक्षित एवं सस्ती यात्रा करना चाहते हैं। हमें नैनो को दोपहिया के विकल्प के तौर पर उतारना था न कि सबसे सस्ती कार के रूप में। इस तरह की मार्केटिंग के चलते नैनो की क्षमताओं को कम कर आंका गया। इसकी ब्रांडिंग भारतीय बाजार में बेहद सस्ती कार के तौर पर हो गई, जिससे नुकसान हुआ। इसी धब्बे को धोने के लिए अब हम इसे इंडोनेशिया जैसे देश में उतारेंगे। विदेशी बाजार में इसे लेकर बहुत उत्सुकता है। यूरोपीय बाजारों के लिए भी नैनो को तैयार किया जा सकता है।

उन्होंने कहा कि इसकी रीलॉन्चिंग की तैयारी चल रही है। नई नैनो में अलग तरह के फीचर होंगे। हालांकि, उन्होंने इसके समय के बारे में कुछ नहीं बताया। पिछले साल भी टाटा ने कहा था कि अब नैनो को दोबारा उतारने का वक्त आ गया है। इस कार में बेहतर करने का माद्दा है। हम अपनी गलतियों से इसका पूरा फायदा नहीं उठा पाए। इस साल अप्रैल-अक्टूबर अवधि में इसकी बिक्री 71.7 फीसद घटकर 12,322 इकाई रह गई है। पिछले वित्त वर्ष की इसी अवधि में कंपनी ने 43,627 कारें बेची थीं। अक्टूबर में टाटा मोटर्स ने नैनो का सीएनजी वर्जन भी पेश किया मगर इससे भी बिक्री में ज्यादा फर्क पड़ता नहीं दिखाई दे रहा। दिल्ली में फिलहाल इसकी एक्स शोरूम कीमत 1.45 लाख से 2.65 लाख रुपये के बीच है।
