Virus can be used to kill cancer and tumour cells

According to researchers of the Penn State College of Medicine, understanding how the virus kills cancer cells may lead to new treatments for breast cancer.

Adeno-associated virus type 2 (AAV2) infects humans but is not known to cause sickness.

"Treatment of breast cancer remains difficult because there are multiple signaling pathways that promote tumour growth and develop resistance to treatment," said Craig Meyers, professor of microbiology and immunology at Pennsylvania State University in US.

In prior studies, the researchers tested the virus on a variety of breast cancers that represent degrees of aggressiveness on human papillomavirus-positive cervical cancer cells.

The virus initiated apoptosis natural cell death in cancer cells without affecting healthy cells.

Treatment of breast cancer differs from patient to patient due to differences in tumours. A triple-negative breast cancer is typically aggressive.

"There is an urgent and ongoing need for the development of novel therapies which efficiently target triple-negative breast cancers," Meyers said.

Doctors develop new treatment for ovarian cancer

The doctors have said that the new treatment can improve response rates (increase the rate of tumour shrinkage) and delay cancer progression.

  

"Trebananib is a first-in-class peptide-Fc fusion protein (or peptibody) that targets angiogenesis (the growth of new blood vessels into cancerous tumours) by inhibiting the binding of both angiopoietin 1 and 2 to the Tie2 receptor," researchers said.

This is very different mechanism of action than other agents that also effect angiogenesis by inhibiting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) such as bevacizumab, they said.

Researchers said trebananib does not increase the risks of hypertension and bowel perforation like bevaciuzmab but still has a similar impact on tumour shrinkage and delaying cancer progression.

  

A randomized clinical trial added trebananib or placebo to standard chemotherapy (weekly paclitaxel) among 919 women with recurrent ovarian cancer patient from 179 sites in 32 countries.

The trial, dubbed TRINOVA-1, was run by Professor Bradley J Monk who directs the Division of Gynaecologic Oncology at the University of Arizona Cancer Centre at St Joseph's in Phoenix.

"This is an exciting new targeted medication in treating recurrent ovarian cancer. Recurrent ovarian cancer is almost always fatal and new treatments are desperately needed," said Monk.

मुंबई। अभिनेता इमरान हाशमी के चार साल के बेटे को कैंसर है। फिल्म निर्माता महेश भंट्ट ने मीडिया से ये जानकारी साझा की है। उन्होंने बताया कि इमरान के चार साल के बेटे अयान की किडनी में ट्यूमर है और कैंसर का पहला स्टेज है। उन्होंने बताया कि इस खबर ने इमरान को अंदर से तोड़ दिया है।

महेश भंट्ट ने कहा कि इमरान ने बीते दिनों उन्हें फोन पर ये जानकारी दी है। उन्होंने कहा कि इमरान की आवाज बिल्कुल सहमी हुई सी थी। उन्होंने बताया कि अयान फिलहाल हिंदुजा अस्पताल में भर्ती है। उसका इलाज चल रहा है। उसे कीमोथैरेपी की जरूरत है। बताया जा रहा है कि पहले स्टेज पर पता चलने की वजह से इसका इलाज करना आसान होगा। इमरान ने अपनी फिल्मों को फिलहाल स्थगित कर दिया है।

जागरण संवाददाता,नई दिल्ली। 'जा तू भी आत्महत्या कर ले', यहां तो ऐसे ही चलेगा। यह बात वरिष्ठ अधिकारी कनिष्ठ से कह दे तो उसके दिल पर क्या गुजरेगी? नगर निगम उत्तरी में ऐसा होता है। नगर निगम उत्तरी के सफाई निरीक्षक नरेश कुमार गुप्ता को सफाई अधीक्षकों से यही सुनने को मिला है। गुप्ता को पिछले छह माह से वेतन नहीं मिल रहा है। 

गुप्ता का परिवार तंगी से जूझ रहा है। गुप्ता की कैंसर पीड़ित बेटी भी पिता के वेतन के लिए निगम कार्यालयों व दिल्ली सरकार के अधिकारियों के कार्यालय के चक्कर लगा रही है। लेकिन नगर निगम उत्तरी के सफाई विभाग के कुछ भ्रष्ट अधिकारी न ही सफाई निरीक्षक गुप्ता का वेतन बनने दे रहे हैं और न ही उन्हें काम दिया जा रहा है। इससे पूरा परिवार भारी तनाव में है। यहां बता दें कि वेतन न मिलने से परेशान नगर निगम के बाबू अमित जोशी ने कुछ दिन पहले ही आत्महत्या कर ली थी। उन्हें दस माह से वेतन नहीं मिल रहा था। गुप्ता ने जब अमित जोशी का जिक्र सफाई विभाग के अधीक्षकों से किया तो उनका जवाब था कि जा तू भी आत्महत्या कर ले, यहां ऐसे ही चलेगा। 

नरेश कुमार गुप्ता सिविल लाइल जोन में सफाई निरीक्षक के पद पर कार्यरत हैं। बीमार होने पर पिछले साल उन्होंने अपनी किडनी ट्रांसप्लांट कराई थी। जिस पर प्रति माह लगभग 12 हजार रुपये का खर्च आ रहा है। उनकी 19 वर्षीय बेटी भी कैंसर से पीड़ित है। गुप्ता को दस जून से वेतन नहीं मिला है। नरेश गुप्ता का कहना है कि वह 23 अगस्त से नियमित रूप से सिविल लाइन जोन में नौकरी पर जा रहे हैं। मगर उन्हें न कार्यालय में बैठाया जा रहा है और न काम दिया जा रहा है। इस संबंध में निगम आयुक्त को शिकायत दी जा चुकी है लेकिन सुनवाई नहीं हो रही है। 

यहां विदित है कि नगर निगम में सत्तासीन भाजपा नेता जो आम लोगों के हितैषी होने का दावा करते हैं, उन्हें भी निरीक्षक की परेशानी नजर नहीं आ रही। इस संबंध में नगर निगम उत्तरी के आयुक्त पीके गुप्ता कहते हैं कि उन्हें मामले की जानकारी नहीं है। वह मामले को गंभीरतापूर्वक देखेंगे।
