Modi witnesses PSLV-C23 launch, asks ISRO to develop SAARC satellite

Modi witnesses PSLV-C23 launch
"Today I ask you, the space community, to take up the challenge of developing a SAARC satellite that we can dedicate to our neighbourhood as a gift from India," he said in his address.

He asked the scientists to work on a satellite that would provide full range of applications and services to all of India's neighbours.

"Such a satellite will be helpful in SAARC nations' fight against poverty and illiteracy, the challenge to progress in scientific field, and will open up avenues to provide opportunities to the youth of SAARC countries," he said from ISRO's Mission Control Room.

The 'dream' for such a satellite will be useful for the development of all SAARC nations with India playing a key role in that, Modi reasoned in a speech laced with anecdotes and delivered in a mix of English and Hindi.

Modi said the need for such a satellite arose because of India's age-old ethos of 'vasudhaiva kutumbakam' (the world is a family) even as "India's space programme is driven by service and not by desire of power".

"For us, it (space programme) is an important instrument of human progress. We must, therefore, share the fruits of technological advancement with those who do not enjoy it. We already share disaster management data with over 30 countries.

"We provide benefits of telemedicine to Afghanistan and African countries. But we must do more. 'Yeh dil maange more' (the heart desires for more)," Modi said repeating a famous tagline.

He also exhorted the scientific community to enlarge India's footprints of satellite navigation system to cover all of South Asia.

Space programme was one area where India had "pushed beyond mediocrity" to achieve excellence despite "international hurdles" even as the country had come a long way from its humble beginnings of its first satellite Aryabhatta to engaging in commercial launches of satellites of even developed countries, he said.

Crediting former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee's vision for India's lunar mission Chandrayaan, Modi also referred to the Mars mission, adding, he followed the space-related developments closely.

He expressed joy that the country had an indigenous space programme despite "resource constrains and hurdles".

Modi said that space technology was not confined to the elite and described this as 'wrong perception' even as he outlined the government's commitment to change it.

He said that the laboratory achievements of the scientists will be implemented for public good and noted that GIS-enabled watershed programmes, besides others, had borne fruits for the common man.

The Prime Minister asked the space scientists to work towards replicating such models in the area of land records and related issues, besides governance, and said if implemented, it could help the public at large.

Modi lauded the space community, saluting among others its founding fathers Vikram Sarabhai and Satish Dhawan, besides ISRO for the 'perfect' placement of the five foreign satellites in intended orbit today.

He said India's advanced space programme "puts her in an elite global group of 5-6 countries" and exhorted ISRO to go in for heavier satellites.

"Our space scientists have made us global leaders in one of the most complex areas on modern technology. This shows that we can be the best and we must feel proud of it. If we apply ourselves, we can meet the aspirations of our people," the Prime Minister said.

Modi, who stayed overnight at ISRO, said he was happy to come across four generations of scientists, including those from the days of Aryabhatta satellite and said it gave a 'family-like' environment at the spaceport.

India's scientific tradition was deep-rooted as the country had provided 'shunya (zero)' without which there could be no scientific progress, he added.

After a perfect lift off from the First Launch Pad in Satish Dhawan Space Centre here at 9.52 am, Indian Space Research Organisation's workhorse PSLV-C23 placed all five satellites into their intended orbits, one after the other between 17 and 19 minutes after liftoff, in textbook precision.

Besides its primary payload of 714 kg French Earth Observation Satellite SPOT-7, PSLV C23 carried and placed in orbit 14 kg AISAT of Germany, NLS7.1 (CAN-X4) and NLS7.2 (CAN-X5) of Canada each weighing 15 kg and the 7 kg VELOX-1 of Singapore.

The five satellites were launched under commercial arrangements that ANTRIX (ISRO's commercial arm) entered into with the respective foreign agencies.

Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh, Secretary Space Dr Radhakrishnan, and eminent scientists Prof UR Rao, Dr Kasturirangan were present on the occasion.

ISRO has so far launched 35 satellites from 19 countries around the globe - Algeria, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Singapore, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Turkey and United Kingdom, bringing a huge sum to the country as foreign exchange.

Our Mars mission cost less than movie 'Gravity': Modi

The Indian space programmes are most cost effective and the cost incurred for the Mars mission was less than the money invested to make the Hollywood movie ‘Gravity’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

"Even today, our programme stands out as the most cost effective in the world," said Modi on Monday after the successful launch of a rocket that carried five foreign satellites to space.

"The story of our Mars mission costing less than the Hollywood movie 'Gravity' had gone viral on social media recently. Our scientists have shown the world, a new paradigm of frugal engineering and the power of imagination," he said.

"Gravity" is a 2013 British-American 3D epic science fiction thriller film. It was directed by Alfonso Cuarón, and stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts involved in the mid-orbit destruction of a space shuttle and their attempt to return to the Earth.

The budget of the movie was USD 100 million.

ISRO has enhanced India’s glory: Andhra CM

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Governor E S L Narasimhan also witnessed the launch from the Sriharikota spaceport in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.

"It is a very happy occasion. I congratulate every ISRO scientist who contributed to this success and enhanced India's glory," Chandrababu said in a statement here.

The Chief Minister, who witnessed the launch along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remarked that the intellect and efforts of scientists were placing India on a high pedestal in the world in the fields of science and technology.

He wished the ISRO would achieve more such laurels in future under the leadership of its chairman K Radhakrishnan.

He thanked the Prime Minister for his presence and encouraging words at the launch of PSLV-C23 that placed five satellites of France, Germany, Canada and Singapore in space.

Mercedes to soon double capacity at Chakan plant near Pune

Representational Picture
"The plant expansion is in the final stage and in the process of getting all approvals. It will be ready for use very soon," Boris Fitz, VP (sales and network development) of Mercedes-Benz India, said here.

The company's first owned-plant in India started production in 2009. It has an annual installed capacity of 10,000, which would become 20,000 post expansion.
Last year, Mercedes-Benz registered sales of more than 9,000 units.

"This calendar year, we are expecting to grow in double digit," Fitz told reporters at the launch of special editions of A-Class and B-Class compact cars in the metropolis.

"The capacity expansion has been planned to make the company future-ready as the luxury car market is going to expand at a higher growth as compared to the normal passenger car market," he said.

At present, the volume of the luxury segment was 1.5 percent of the total car market in the country.

"By 2022, this will go up to four per cent of the total market estimated at 5.5 lakh units," Fitz said.

He said with the expansion in capacity, total investments in India would touch Rs 850 crore.

Mercedes-Benz plans to launch three more models in the current calendar year.

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan's sarod goes missing on British Airways flight

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan
The Padma Vibhushan sarod maestro had gone to London along with his wife Subhalaxmi for a performance at Dartington College to celebrate the life of Rabindranth Tagore on June 21 and returned on the night of June 28.

He and his wife were travelling first class on British Airways flight (BA-143) on their return journey from London.

"But when we arrived at Delhi airport on June 28, I could not find my priceless sarod. We waited there for 4-5 hours while airline people tried to trace the instrument. But they were not able to trace it, and they said most likely it would come by the next flight," Khan told.

"But now it’s more than 48 hours and still I am waiting for some news. How can such a big airline be so irresponsible," Khan said.

When contacted, British Airways said, "There have been intermittent problems with Heathrow Airport's baggage system in Terminal 5. We are working round-the-clock to make sure we reunite all of our customers with their baggage as quickly as possible".

"This process has taken longer than anticipated and we apologise for the inconvenience caused," an airline spokesperson said.

The maestro said he has lodged a complaint with the airlines but he does not want compensation.
"I want the airlines to trace my sarod and give it back to me as it is priceless and I don't want any compensation," further said the maestro.

The maestro added that he had told the airlines in London "to handle it with care as it is my life, but now this has happened."

"Being an artist I communicate through my sarod, which was with me for last 45 years, but if it is lost now, then how will I communicate?," he asked.

According to sources, Khan's sarod was packed at London as per procedure carried out for packaging of such precious instruments, before they are being sent as check-in luggage.

India, Pak to discuss fresh timeline for trade liberalisation

Nirmala Sitharaman
The meeting between Sitharaman and Khan will take place on the sidelines of SAFTA Ministerial Council in Bhutan on July 24.

"I will meet the Indian state minister for commerce for resumption of bilateral trade talks," Khan was quoted as saying.

It will be first high level trade interaction since the BJP came to power.

An official of commerce ministry said that trade liberalisation will be on the top of the agenda when the commerce ministers meet.

"We missed an early deadline of December 31, 2012 to remove all hurdles in the trade relations. Now the two governments will try to agree on fresh roadmap for it," he said.

He said India should address concerns of business community in Pakistan regarding non-tariff barriers and other issues which could impact export after trade liberalisation.

The two ministers will also discuss the agreements signed in 2012 to remove bottlenecks in trade facilitation.

Pakistan has already modified the politically sensitive issue of Most-Favoured Nation status to India by changing it to Non-Discriminatory (NDA).

It would also take up the issues of further trimming of the sensitive list, removing visa restrictions, allowing of banking channels and mobile connectivity, he said.

In 2012, Pakistan expanded the list of items tradable with India from 1,918 items to 5,800. Only 1,209 items now remain on the negative list.

Pakistan has 936 items on the sensitive list and India 614.

It will be second meeting of Pakistan's commerce minister with the Indian side after his visit in January during the tenure of the previous UPA government.

I don't miss working with Khans: Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan
Vidya, who will be seen sharing the screen space with actor Ali Fazal in detective thriller 'Bobby Jasoos', said she is not keen on doing it either as she does not see herself fitting into 'masala commercials'.

"I don't miss working with them. There has to be a script that has enough for me to do... It has to be exciting for me. I have never looked for films where I can work with certain actors,” Vidya said.

"I have not really got offers ...not in the past seven years. I don't see myself fitting into those kinds of films honestly," she added.

The actress further said, “I have never planned my career.. I have only responded to scripts that came my way. To be working with actors or new actors, I don't plan my career that way. I have a different approach. And I am very happy with the kind of work I am doing.”

Meanwhile, there are rumours that the biopic on legendary Carnatic singer M S Subbulakshmi, which Vidya will be doing is in some legal trouble.

"I have no information on that. In the past one year, it has been put on hold. So, I don’t know what is the status," she said.

After Bobby Jasoos, the actress will be next seen in director Mohit Suri's 'Humari Adhuri Kahaani' with Emraan Hashmi and Rajkumar Rao.

"I have not started any preparations for this film yet. Once 'Bobby Jasoos' is out, after that I will begin work on that," she said.

Women's jewellery collection a treasure trove

Representational picture
The research, which was conducted by Vashi Dominguez, founder of the jewellery brand Vashi.com, has revealed that the typical value of a woman's jewellery increases by 2,000 pounds every 10 years as they reach middle age.

By the time she reaches 50, her jewellery is worth 8,000 pounds, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

The collection generally includes up to 150 pieces with the most expensive item normally an engagement ring worth 3,000 pounds.

The study also shows that only 33 percent of the jewellery is regularly worn. The remaining two-thirds are left neglected in a jewellery box because just nine percent of women sell or remodel unwanted pieces.

"Many women don't realize their jewellery box is such a valuable treasure trove. These findings prove the continual popularity of jewellery. No matter her age, women love the feeling new jewellery gives them," said Dominguez.

"They are consistently adding to their collections through their 30s and 40s. Women see fine jewellery as an investment they can enjoy for life. Many affluent 50-year-olds are sitting on jewellery collections worth more than 40,000 pounds - far more than the average annual wage," added Dominguez.

Mother of three drives an auto to run her family

In 2002, Vaishali Raskar stormed a male bastion when she decided to start driving an auto rickshaw, in order to
meet the financial needs of her family.

Now, 12 years later, she runs a tours and travels business with her husband and has managed to take care of her family. However, life had not always been easy for Vaishali, who had to leave her three kids at home to earn money.

“Back then, my husband was driving a school bus, but his earnings were not enough for the family, so I decided to offer a helping hand,” said Vaishali, who in 2002 started taking school children in her auto.

The mother of three admits that it was not easy for her to work in a male-dominated field, as she faced a lot of opposition from her in-laws.

“However, my husband not only supported me, he also taught me how to drive,” said Vaishali, whose career decision was also initially opposed by her eldest daughter, Shrutika.

“I used to feel awkward, and didn’t even share with my friends that my mother drove an auto. However, when they found out, instead of teasing me about it, they appreciated her courage for taking up the job. Most of my friends consider her a role model,” said Shrutika, who is currently pursuing first year BSc from a reputed college of the city.

Aside from the initial resistance from her family, Vaishali says she never experienced discrimination in her field. “It could be because my driving was limited to carrying school children. Whenever I had any difficulty, my male colleagues were always there to help me,” she said.

With the help of her husband, Vaishali started a tours and travels company in 2010 that provides buses and autos to schools in Pune. "While we have drivers, I still prefer driving an auto; it has become my passion," said Vaishali.

Mumbai Murder Case: Watchman found guilty of killing Pallavi Purkayastha

A local court today convicted security guard Sajjad Ahmed Mughal in connection with the murder of 25-year-old city-based lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha in her flat at suburban Wadala here in 2012.

22-year-old Mughal, who was employed as a watchman at the 'Himalayan Heights' building was found guilty of murder, molestation and criminal trespass. Convicting Mughal, Sessions Judge Vrushali Joshi said, "A case of murder, molestation and criminal trespass has been proved against you" following which the accused silently nodded. Meanwhile, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam requested the court that a future date may be given to hear the arguments as well as quantum of sentence after which the Judge adjourned the hearing in the case till July 3. The accused killed Pallavi on August 9, 2012 when she resisted his advances.

Prosecution has examined 40 witnesses while the defence examined three in the case. The Crime Branch had filed a 434-page charge sheet on October 30, 2012 against Mughal charging him with trespass and murder. Earlier, the prosecution had submitted a draft charge against Mughal, accused of murdering the law graduate, who was also an advisor to filmmaker Farhan Akhtar's firm Excel Entertainment, accusing him of attempting to rape. However, Mughal refuted all the allegations and his lawyer Wahab Khan had argued that it was Pallavi's fianc Avik Sengupta who killed her in their flat. Police had claimed that Mughal, a native of Jammu and Kashmir, used to ogle at the young lawyer, the daughter of IAS officer Atanu Purkayastha, who was the joint secretary in the Agriculture Ministry at the Centre when the incident took place.

In his statement to police, Mughal had said that he sneaked into Pallavi's flat on August 9 using a set of duplicate keys and tried to force himself upon her. "However, when I forced myself upon her, she resisted and started screaming and at this time I assaulted her with my knife that I was carrying," Mughal had said in his statement.  Speaking to reporters outside the court after the conviction, Pallavi's family demanded death for Mughal. The victim's father Atanu said, "Two families have been devastated. Death and nothing less than death (should be given).

A positive message will go in the society if death is given." Seconding the demand for death penalty, Pallavi's mother Sumita, Director General with the Ministry of Telecommunication, said, "For two years, my and Avik's family have gone through a lot of trauma. I have lost my daughter and would be son-in law."

Mystery men trim trees every night at Bandra so hoardings can be seen

While the BMC is known to trim trees in the monsoons to prevent weakened branches from causing mishaps during heavy rainfall, tree trimming of a different kind in Mahatma Gandhi Nagar in Bandra (E) has been giving residents sleepless nights.

They claim that miscreants have been arriving stealthily every night to lop off the branches of trees that would otherwise obscure hoardings. Shiv Sena Corporator Anil Trimbakkar recently sent a letter to the BMC, asking it to intervene and take action against those who are involved in the illegal trimming of trees.

He said, “I had sent a letter to the BMC a few days ago, informing them that unknown people have been trimming trees in front of hoardings. I have still not received a response, and no action has been taken against the miscreants, who usually trim the trees late in the night.”

Residents said that they started noticing the trimmed trees a few days ago, and that branches of trees that earlier obscured advertisement hoardings were selectively axed in the dead of night, ostensibly to provide a
better view of the hoardings. The hoardings advertise newly released films as well as brands.

Residents from nearby apartments, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that they have even caught some of the men lopping off the branches around 2 am. They claimed that the miscreants told them that they have been hired on contract basis.

“Even though there has hardly been any rainfall, several trees have been unnecessarily trimmed to provide a clear view of the hoardings to commuters and pedestrians. We do not know who employed these men, but I have seen them start working around 2 am,” said a resident...

US keen to expand ties with India under Modi

US keen to expand ties with India under Modi"I think Prime Minister Modi has got off to a splendid start on both the domestic and foreign policy fronts," Ashley J Tellis, senior associate at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said.

"There is much hard work which lies ahead-and involves difficult policy choices particularly in regards to economic management," Tellis, who as senior adviser to the Bush administration was intimately involved in negotiating the civil nuclear agreement with India, said.

The Obama administration is looking forward to working closely with Modi and a successful visit to Washington by the Indian Prime Minister in September this year, he said.

"There is a clear recognition here that India is one of our most important strategic partnerships and the administration is hoping to push boldly on expanding the envelope of cooperation," Tellis said.

Meanwhile, at the State Department spokesperson Marie Harf told reporters on Thursday that US investment in India had been a key part of US discussions with India for a long time even before Modi took over.

"We certainly talk quite a bit about the economic relationship with India, whether it's investing in certain parts of its economy; whether it's increasing exports and imports and private sector trade," she said.

"That's certainly been a key part of our discussions with the Government of India, not just since Modi has been in office, but before that for a long time as well."...

Tinnitus patients process emotions differently

Representational Picture
"When you hear annoying noises constantly that you cannot control, it may affect your emotional processing systems," said Fatima Husain, speech and hearing science professor at University of Illinois in US.

The researcher used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) brain scans to better understand how tinnitus affects the brain's ability to process emotions. Three groups of participants were used in the study, people with mild-to-moderate hearing loss and mild tinnitus; people with mild-to-moderate hearing loss without tinnitus; and a control group of age-matched people without hearing loss or tinnitus.

Activity in the amygdala, a brain region associated with emotional processing, was lower in the tinnitus and hearing-loss patients than in people with normal hearing. Tinnitus patients also showed more activity than normal-hearing people in two other brain regions associated with emotion, the par hippocampus and the insula.

Google has planned to bring the smartphones by October this year, starting with the Indian market. The device will be produced by homegrown handset maker Micromax along with other firms like Karbonn and Spice for India, which is the world's fastest growing smartphone market.

"The device with Micromax is a dual-SIM 4.5-inch screen device with a removable SD card and will cost less than USD 100," Google SVP, Android, Chrome and Apps, Sundar Pichai said at the firm's developers conference in San Francisco on Thursday.

"We will launch this around the world, but we will start with India this fall," Pichai said.

The search engine giant said it is also working with telecom operators to provide users with "reasonable data plans." He added that the phone addresses the needs of India.

According to research firm IDC, smartphone sales in the country grew almost three-fold to over 44 million in 2013, buoyed by affordable devices made by local firms such as Micromax and Karbonn.

In the first quarter of 2014, 17.59 million smartphones were shipped in India compared with 6.14 million in the same period of 2013.

Samsung was the leader with a 35 percent market share in Q1, followed by Micromax (15 percent), Karbonn (10 percent), LAVA (6 percent) and Nokia (4 percent), according to IDC.

The devices are a part of Google's new initiative, Android One...

SSC students still doubt authenticity of their results

SSC students received their marksheets yesterday. Pic/Nimesh Dave
After a host of errors that riddled SSC exams and results, the students finally received their marksheets on Thursday, including the 1,500 whose results had been withheld by the board for various reasons. However, many students are still unsure if they have received the right result.

One of them is 16-year-old Manthan Solanki, who appeared for his exams with the hall ticket number he’d received from the board in March.

However, when he used the same number to apply for the online junior college admissions, the website stated that the number was already registered for the admission process, under another student’s name. “When we enquired, we found that two students were given the same number.

A few weeks later, we were provided with a new number and we’ve received my son’s result with the new number as well. Now, we are confused if the marks are his or the other student’s,” said his father, Girish. The Divisional State Board has already received similar queries from many parents..

Woman raped by Shah Rukh's driver is not a minor

mid-day report yesterday

While Shah Rukh Khan’s driver has confessed to raping the former maid of a Bollywood actress, as reported by mid-day yesterday, the contours of the case have shifted, with the police finding out that the rape survivor is not a minor.

In her statement to the police while filing the FIR yesterday, the woman had stated that her age is 17, but her Aadhaar card shows that she is 24 years old. The cops are investigating why she gave them the wrong age in statement.

It has also come to light that the woman did not quit her job of her own accord, but was asked to leave on June 18. The phone number for the maid that the driver, Rajendrakumar Gautam alias Pintu Mishra (34), had got through a common friend, was of the actress’ house and she was the one who had answered when Gautam had called.

Thinking that he was speaking to the maid, Gautam told the woman that she would gain nothing by working at the actress’ house and he could get her better jobs. The actress, who was pretending to be the maid, heard everything. Infuriated, she removed the maid from her services. Incidentally, Gautam had called at a time when the actress was seeking to hire two more maids...

Flights to take off from Navi Mumbai airport in 2018: CIDCO

CIDCO said they would make the remaining two villages, which are refusing to give land for the airport, understand the details of the compensation package
If City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) is to be believed, the Navi Mumbai international airport will be ready by the end of 2018. Authorities said the first flight would take off from the airport in December 2018.

The town planning body announced yesterday that most of the villages, which had earlier opposed the proposed airport and the rehabilitation package offered, have agreed to the state’s terms and conditions.

Earlier, out of 10 villages, six had objected to the land acquisition process. Now, the number has come down to two eight villages have agreed to the government’s 22.5 per cent land rehabilitation programme, where the displaced families will get developed land at an FSI of 2.

Sanjay Bhatia, vice-chairman and managing director of CIDCO, said, “We have started the survey in villages and over 90 per cent of it is complete. Villagers who earlier opposed the project have now agreed, and the project is gaining momentum. We are confident that the first flight will take off in December 2018.”

Authorities later added that they will make residents of the two remaining villages understand the nitty-gritty of the rehabilitation package and would not impose or force their views on them. The authority has also extended the deadline for submitting the Request For Qualification (RFQ) for developing the airport till July-end...

Mumbai Metro is not very disabled-friendly

Our correspondents try to climb the ramp at Asalpha station, which they managed with some effort. The ramp does not begin at ground level and is raised, which causes problems. Pics/Nimesh Dave
An official, after much deliberation with his colleagues, told us there was nothing they could do to help us reach the ground floor. He requested us to go back to Asalpha, but accompanied us till the train doorThe all-new Mumbai Metro might be extremely convenient for people travelling from Versova and Ghatkopar, but the city’s newest suburban travel option is not friendly for persons with disabilities (PWDs). mid-day correspondents set out to travel on the Metro, with one of them posing as wheelchair-bound. And the ride was a tough one.

Asalpha
Our journey began at Asalpha, where we found that the ramp for PWDs is difficult to navigate, since it is slightly elevated. We found that if a PWD does not have someone to help, it will be nearly impossible to get on the ramp

Jagruti Nagar
The next hurdle was at Jagruti Nagar, where there is no lift connecting the ground and the first floors. All Metro stations are on the second floor, and when we reached the first floor, we were told that the lift going to the ground floor was not functional.

The guards, while being empathetic to our situation, discussed and told us they couldn’t do anything about it. We were asked to go back to Asalpha, and reach our destination by road; we did so, as there was no other way out. However, one of the officials escorted us to the train’s door...

Congress walks out of WB Assembly demanding discussion on law and order

West Bengal Assembly
Congress leader Manas Bhunia and some other members moved an adjournment motion demanding a discussion on the issue but Speaker Biman Banerjee rejected it yet allowed him to read it out.

The Speaker turned down the request of Congress Legislature Party leader Md Sohrab for discussion on the issue since no arrest had been made despite complaints by the victim's family and the hotel manager.

Unhappy with the decision of the Speaker, all Congress members walked out of the House till recess.

Describing law and order in the state as 'alarming', Bhunia later told reporters outside the House that police inaction on the issue had raised a big question mark on the state government's attitude.

Alleging that gangsters of the ruling party had taken law and order in their own hands in Howrah, Bhunia wondered about the same in other parts of the state.

Bhunia questioned that if a hotel owner died after being threatened over phone and a jute mill CEO was killed within the mill premises and police failed to take action, how would investors come to the state and where would Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's plan for industrialization stand...
