Live 4th ODI: Dhoni, Jadeja launch counterattack; India 223/5 in 45 overs

MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja led the charge as India fought back in the fourth ODI against New Zealand at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Tuesday. The visitors were 223/5 in 40 overs.

The duo have been playing sensibly, mixing cheeky runs with the big hits. The partnership is worth
72 runs, with Dhoni on 47 and Jadeja on 46.

The Indian top order fell to familiar shortcomings of inability to play the short ball or rotate strike regularly and paid the price. Rohit Sharma hit a determined 79 but that was about it.

Sharma and Ambati Rayudu stitched together a partnership of 79 runs to stabilise India after Virat Kohli failed as an opener for India, falling for a laboured two runs in ten balls.

He did not look comfortable at the crease, with the Kiwi pace spearheads Kyle Mills and Tim Southee getting a bit of swing shaping away from the right handers.

Kohli fell in the fourth over, trying to get under a Southee bouncer but ended up giving an easy catch to Jimmy Neesham at midwicket.

The next to fall was Ajinkya Rahane, again to the short ball, giving an easy catch to Southee at deep fine leg. He poked at a Kane Williamson delivery that was going down the leg side, giving a tough chance to Ronchi, who latched on to it.

Ambati Rayudu (37) then came to the crease with Sharma and stabilised the innings. But then, he fell to the short ball too, misjudging the hight on a Hamish Bennett delivering, top edging to Luke Ronchi behind the wickets. Read more..
