Sunanda Pushkar's death: SDM questions Shashi Tharoor on ties with Pak scribe

Even as he wrote to the home minister offering full cooperation with investigations into the mysterious death of his wife, Sunanda Pushkar, junior HRD minister Shashi Tharoor faced some embarrassing, personal questions while having his statement recorded before a sub-divisional magistrate on Sunday.

During the hour-long recording of statement under section 164 CrPC, magistrate Alok Sharma asked Tharoor about the fights he reportedly had with Pushkar before her death and his relationship with Pakistan journalist Mehr Tarar.

"Tharoor accepted that he knew Tarar and had 'good relations' with her but he did not specify the nature of the relationship," a source said.

The magistrate also verbally recorded the statement of TV journalist Nalini Singh, who had spoken to Pushkar a night before her death. In all, the statements of eight people were recorded, including that of Sunanda's brother, Colonel Rajesh, her son Shiv, Tharoor's personal assistant R K Sharma and the two helps, Narain and Bajrangi.

Meanwhile, Tharoor asked home minister Sushilkumar Shinde for speedy investigation of the case so that the truth comes out soon. He said he was "horrified" to read media reports on Pushkar's death. Read more......
