KGA president MP Paul said KGA, which also staged the Indian Open to much appreciation in 2012, felt the course is ready for another big bash. “The KGA, after renovation in 2007, is now up to international standards, with regards to irrigation and drainage. The quality of the fairways and greens is up to standard and we welcome some of tomorrow’s global stars to our club to see some world class golfing action.”
Dilip Thomas, the vice-chairman of Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, said the decision behind choosing KGA was owing to its top-class playing conditions. “We chose KGA because of its reputation of a world class course and top class playing conditions and facilities. Since, KGA has won the award as India’s best course at the Asian Golf Awards 2010, it is only appropriate to bring the tournament here.”
Tough for Indians
Meanwhile, at Chonburi, Thailand, it was a tough day for Indian hopefuls at the Open Qualifying Series-Thailand as Rahil Gangjee emerged as the best with one-under 71.
Gangjee, who was placed tied 15th, is three behind the leader Hiroshi Iwata (68) of Japan at the end of the first round of the 36-hole qualifier.
Chiragh Kumar (73) was the second best at tied 28th. Anirban Lahiri pulled out after the first round of 74, while SSP Chowrasia carded 78 and Himmat Rai shot 79...
