ATM containing Rs 11 lakh stolen in Sikar

Unidentified robbers took away an ATM containing nearly Rs 11 lakh in Sikar town's Dodh Road area. There was no security guard at the ATM and the cabin didn't have any CCTV. Uprooting the ATM proved an easy task for robbers as it was not properly fixed in the floor. According to the police, even the tiles on the floor were not damaged when the ATM was uprooted. The robbers just lifted it from its place and took it away.

It is the second such incident this month. An ATM was taken away in a similar manner in Alwar also. The police managed to arrest some robbers and recover the damaged ATM from a dried up well a few days later. In Sikar case, the police said that they have some clues and will soon work out the case.

According to the police, the incident came to light around 9 am on Saturday, nearly seven hours after the theft. Some passersby spotted the ATM missing and informed the police.

"I went to the spot. Theft must have taken place around 2 am as it was the time when the ATM got disconnected from server. It proved a sitting duck for the thieves as they didn't have to make any serious efforts to steal the ATM," said SP, Sikar, Haider Ali Zaidi.

The officer said that the thieves didn't even have to use any drilling machine to get the ATM uprooted from the floor. "As it was not fixed in the floor properly, the thieves just took it away," said the officer.

The officer added that there were no security guards. "Besides, CCTVs, which are a must in the ATMs, were not there. It made the job of the robbers quite easy," said the officer. The officer added that they have rushed several teams to various parts of the state. Read more..
