Salman Khan: controversy's favourite child?

Salman Khan's Dabangg may have proved to be such a huge hit because he has somewhat 'Dabangg' persona in real life too.

Salman Khan, who had been on an image-cleansing spree for the past few years -- taking comments with a pinch of salt, establishing his NGO Being Human,
reconciling with people he had fought with and focusing on charity and donations, especially for kids -- is back in trouble.

In the run-up to the release of Jai Ho, his meeting with Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi elicited adverse comments. He was also slammed for performing at Saifai in front of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav even as Muzaffarnagar riot victims suffered.

His latest release has also failed to live up to the high standards set by his earlier blockbusters such as Ekk Tha Tiger.

Now as he appears in a Jodhpur court regarding the blackbuck poaching case, we take a look at the controversial life of the superstar.

2014: Salman Khan – along with Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt and others – was slammed for performing at Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav's Saifai Mahotsav even as children died in relief camps in Muzaffarnagar for want of proper rehabilitation. While Alia Bhatt apologised, Salman Khan and Madhuri reacted angrily stating that they were simply doing their jobs.

2013: The star had been hosting Bigg Boss for four years. The seventh season of the reality show, however, proved troublesome for Salman Khan. From being accused of partiality against the TV actors in the house to lobbying for contestant and Bollywood actor Tanisha Mukherji, the superstar faced it all. He finally took to Twitter explaining his side of the controversies. Salman even said that this might be his last season as the host of Bigg Boss.

2010: Salman Khan came under severe criticism for saying during an interview to a Pakistani channel that the 26/11 attacks were hyped because "elite people" were targeted.

2008: The actor fought with Shah Rukh Khan at Katrina Kaif's birthday and since then the stars have been reportedly engaged in a cold war.

2008: He also attracted fatwas for celebrating Ganesh Puja.

2003: Vivek Oberoi picked up a fight with the brat Khan over Oberoi's then rumoured girlfriend and Salman Khan's ex Aishwarya. Oberoi held a press conference against Salman Khan.

2002: Salman Khan is known to be possessive about his ladyloves. This turned into obsession when he got violent in his relationship with ex Miss World Aishwarya Rai and allegedly harassed her constantly.

2002: Salman Khan ran into trouble after his car ran into a bakery in Mumbai. One person who was sleeping on the pavement died and three others were injured in the mishap. Next hearing of the ongoing case will be on February 12.
