A lion-hearted performance by goalkeeper Harjot Singh saw Kalinga Lancers hold favourites Punjab Warriors to a 3-3 draw in their Hero Hockey India League match at the International Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.
The Warriors had won the first leg between the two teams in Bhubaneshwar 7-3.
The game started at a frenetic pace with both teams attacking consistently. Punjab had the better of exchanges but the opening goal was scored by the Lancers.
It was poor marking from Punjab defender Sandeep Singh which helped Lancers striker Gagandeep Singh catch the Warriors defence napping with a fast hit down the middle which gave goalkeeper Bharat Chhetri no chance.
In the 14th minute, Sandeep had a chance to redeem himself but he couldn't convert Punjab's first penalty corner. The Warriors equalized in the 18th minute through a penalty corner.
It was an intelligent dummy sold by Aussie Kieran Govers to the Lancers defence and Christopher Ciriello did the rest with a slap shot that ended in the back of the net.
