‘Jai Ho’ enters 100 crore club

The year 2013 was disheartening for the fans of Salman Khan, as none of his movies got released in the year.  Therefore, excitement was very high about his next upcoming film ‘Jai Ho’ that portrayed him as the savior of common men. The film is directed by Salman’s brother, Sohail Khan and produced jointly by Sohail and Sunil Lulla, who is the head of Eros International. Though the film opened to packed movie halls, it could not deliver as per the expectations of the fans and soon the response towards the film as lukewarm. This was a dismal performance from Salman Khan who has earlier given back to back hits.

But as news from the box offices start pouring in, it is evident that the film is doing good business and has entered the 100 crore club as the first film of the year 2014. ‘Jai Ho’ released on 24th January 2014 and as of its second weekend has collected a whooping Rs. 166.33 crore. The announcement of the film’s earning was made by the officials of Eros International. It seems that the charisma of Salman Khan has steered the film to success finally.

The senior vice president from Eros International Media Ltd, Nandu Ahuja stated that, “We are encouraged by the film’s run into its second week. With Uttar Pradesh going tax free which will give a boost to the collections, we are hoping more states will follow.

‘Jai Ho’ was released in five thousand movie halls worldwide. It earned Rs 133.33 crore from the Indian market and Rs 33 crore from the overseas market. An elated Kamal Jain, the group CFO of Eros International Media Ltd said, “ `Jai Ho` is an action drama with a social message and is slightly different from the usual Salman Khan fare, so the film was sensibly priced keeping this in mind. We are pleased to say that while the film may not have smashed box office records as is the recent trend, it is a profitable venture for us and we are proud to be associated with the film. It is definitely a key film in our portfolio that we will continue to exploit for the next 60 years.”

We hope that Salman continues to deliver more such hit films and learn from his mistakes to avoid repeating them in future film project.
